The West is preparing to freeze the conflict in Donbass for several decades
The frozen conflict in Donbass suits both the Kiev regime and its Western partners.
The Kiev online newspaper “Strana” writes about this in material about the prospects for resolving the conflict in Donbass.
As one of the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada told the publication, assessing the latest visit of the special representative of the US State Department Kura Volker to Kiev, at present, freezing the conflict in Donbass is quite suitable for the Ukrainian authorities, since official Kiev is not ready to “suddenly receive” 2 million voters disloyal to the authorities.
At the same time, the deputy says, the United States is not against such a scenario either, which does not want to encourage Kyiv to make concessions to Russia, but at the same time does not want an escalation of the situation, fraught with the loss of new territories for Ukraine.
In turn, Kiev political scientist Kost Bondarenko says that both the West and Russia are tired of war, and therefore they can agree to freeze the conflict.
The expert draws attention to the fact that throughout April, several conferences were held in Europe with the participation of a narrow circle of experts, at which the issue of the conflict in Ukraine was discussed and at which for the first time the expression “settlement of crisis in Ukraine” was heard more often, but the definition “management of crisis” (conflict management).
“The West is already preparing for the fact that this conflict will be frozen, perhaps for decades. Someday it may be resolved, but not now. Most likely, this was the last meeting between Volker and Surkov. The current government benefits from even the absence of voters from Donbass. This means that the conflict will be in a frozen state until the change of power in Ukraine,” Bondarenko believes.
