British media: It's too early to celebrate. Russia's defeat is by no means guaranteed
Russia will certainly take advantage of the withdrawal of troops from the right bank of the Dnieper to strengthen its defenses and build up its forces.
The popular British newspaper The Telegraph writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is difficult for the West to abandon the idea that a happy ending to a fairy tale for the free world is being created on the battlefields of Ukraine,” the publication writes.
It calls the Russian retreat from Kherson a “watershed moment,” adding that the prospect of a Ukrainian offensive to oust Russia from Crimea “has gone from pure fantasy to a completely plausible scenario.”
“But the West should be more careful in declaring victory, because it is too early to talk about it. In operational terms, Russia's defeat is by no means guaranteed. It will certainly take advantage of the withdrawal of troops to replenish them with personnel in the winter and strengthen its defensive lines. It will continue to test Western resolve by continuing energy wars and perhaps carrying out covert terrorist attacks,” the newspaper warns.
But the author considers something else more important.
“The world is far from united against Putin. Most developing countries do not at all share the Western view that Russia's military operation in Ukraine is a life-and-death moment fraught with danger.
If the West sees it as a Manichaean war between order and chaos, between freedom and imperialism, between rules-based stability and expansionist anarchy, then too many world leaders see it as a battlefield where many shades of gray are hidden behind the fog of Western arrogance.” summarizes the British publication.
