If the Russians raise the Aerospace Forces, big problems await us - SBU General
In the event of an aggravation of the situation in Donbass, and especially taking into account the intervention of the Russian Federation and a possible war in the air, Kyiv now needs to improve relations with its “Western partners.”
The former head of the SBU, Colonel General Igor Smeshko, stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The concentration of Russian troops on our border has traditionally existed for many years, and it is only intensifying. They are well mobilized, trained, with all the strategic logistics of a possible offensive operation. At the same time, it can theoretically go from both sides. Including, theoretically, the group is in Belarus, and it could potentially attack us from the north. But the most striking group is, of course, on our eastern border.
I have said many times that the ground component there is good, but we have approximate parity today with tactical reserves. But if the Military Space Forces are used, then, unfortunately, (and I am surprised that our General Staff, the Ministry of Defense, do not think about this at all), there are huge problems from a purely military point of view,” Smeshko said.
At the same time, he complained that everyone in Donbass has long been aware of Ukraine’s offensive plans.
“As of today, the group has been standing opposite us for a month, maybe more. The Russian population is being informed that Ukraine is preparing to conduct a military operation to liberate the occupied territories. Even in the schools of the DPR and LPR, the so-called children are told about this. Mobilization is currently underway there,” said the ex-SBU officer.
“And today our Ministry of Defense and General Staff do not receive any instructions from the highest military-political leadership about whether we are ready, in the event of an escalation of the situation, with our strategic reserves, especially taking into account a possible war in the air, to prepare for this ? And now [we need] to contact our partners in the West with specific counter-initiatives on these issues,” Smeshko added.
