Putin is against the exchange of journalist Vyshinsky for terrorist Sentsov
Russia is not ready to discuss the topic of exchanging the editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti-Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky, who was detained in Kiev, for Oleg Sentsov, who in Ukraine is called a director and who was convicted in 2014 of preparing a terrorist attack in Crimea.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today during the Direct Line.
“Our journalist Vyshinsky was arrested and detained in Ukraine for direct professional activities, for carrying out a journalistic function. This absolutely unprecedented and unacceptable policy of today’s Ukrainian rulers should be appropriately reflected in the reaction of the journalistic community and international human rights organizations.
As for the other person involved, Mr. Sentsov, he was detained in Crimea for preparing a terrorist attack, an explosion that could result in people being injured. These are completely different things, incomparable. We haven’t thought about this yet,” Putin said.
The President made it clear that Russia intends to seek the release of Vyshinsky through international organizations, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Common sense must prevail in Ukraine. I hope that we will achieve the release of the Russian journalist, including under pressure from international organizations, on which the Ukrainian authorities in one way or another depend today,” Putin said.
