The reason for the Russian official’s statement was the application of the Ukrainian Kryukov Machine-Building Plant to supply high-speed trains to the Russian Federation.
Ukrainian manufacturers motivated their initiative by the fact that Russia might be interested in trains under Western sanctions.
However, the vice-president of Russian Railways, Meshcheryakov, told the newspaper that, despite statements about sanctions, none of the European partners of the Russian monopoly have terminated existing contracts.
“At the Inno Trans exhibition in Berlin, held at the end of September, not a single foreign partner spoke out in favor of ending cooperation with Russian companies in the field of railway equipment,” the official said, referring in particular to cooperation with Siemens.
Market experts interviewed by the newspaper predict that the production volume of Ukrainian railcars will never reach its previous level of 50-60 thousand railcars per year, reaching 20-30 thousand at best.
