Salivon: The Americans “photoshopped” the rejected nuclear power plant unit and are preparing it for shipment to Ukraine
According to recent agreements with Energoatom, Westinghouse will produce the AP1000 unit for the Khmelnitsky NPP, but in fact the unit has already been manufactured for another company that failed to sell it, and the Americans just need to get rid of it urgently.
Sergei Salivon, director of the economic policy department of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, said this in a conversation on the Capital channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Westinghouse had one attempt to build two units in the US at the BC Summer nuclear power plant. It ended completely unmatched - with the winding down of work in 2017 with the simultaneous announcement of Westinghouse bankruptcy. It is precisely for these facts - the construction of the VC Summer nuclear power plant - that former Westinghouse executives are now receiving sentences.
But this equipment, by the way, is the same one with a long production period for which Energoatom is going to pay an advance; Westinghouse managed to produce it for these two units, and it has been sunbathing in the South Carolina sun for many years.
Moreover, Westinghouse has obligations to implement it within five years (of which two years have already passed) to compensate for part of the losses of the former customer for the construction of these power units at the BC Summer nuclear power plant, SCANA, which operates this nuclear power plant.
The need to urgently send someone illiquid property and an advance payment for the production of long-manufactured equipment are two more facts that indicate a scam.
I didn’t realize that we were talking about transferring this particular equipment to us. It is this that is planned to be used in the construction of the Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant, if it comes to that. Mr. Kotin (the head of Energoatom, Petr Kotin) went to America, got acquainted with how Westinghouse “successfully” built two power units of the V.C. Summer nuclear power plant, and even took a photo against the backdrop of the rusty AP1000 reactor vessel, after which it was made brand new - of course, in Photoshop, it turned from rusty to completely shiny, it’s wonderful!” said Sergei Salivon.
