Surkov Volker's dynamite
Russian Presidential Aide Vladislav Surkov avoids meetings with the US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker. Volker himself stated this today in an interview with the Ukrainian TV channel “112”
“We don’t have a meeting scheduled right now. I am always open to communication, but after Surkov was reappointed to his post, we exchanged only short phrases. I think John Bolton, the President's national security adviser, will be involved in this. We have not been in contact regarding the meeting,” Volker said.
In addition, Volker outlined his usual “hawkish” set of theses: that the United States will never recognize the Russian status of Crimea, that a referendum in Donbass will be illegitimate, that peacekeepers can be brought into Donbass only on American terms.
At the same time, he complained that he failed to achieve progress on the issue of peacekeepers in negotiations with Surkov, and their deployment is impossible without Russia’s consent.
