The current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg behaves like an ordinary official and does not lobby for the interests of Ukraine within the alliance.

The ex-ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Valery Chaly, stated this on the air of the Lvov NTA TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I expected approximately these kinds of statements [to the request for the accelerated inclusion of Ukraine in NATO], because, as I understand, there really was no preliminary dialogue with each country. On our part there have been such statements more than once, and not only under Zelensky, they know this is a choice.

Therefore, the statements of both the NATO Secretary General and representatives of other countries, in particular Blinken, say that the doors are open, and the country has the right to do so. That is, for us today, in principle, this is a sufficient statement. There’s no need to be too disappointed,” Chaly said.

At the same time, he reproached the NATO Secretary General for his insufficiently bright speech at the briefing.

“I think that Jens Stoltenberg, I know him personally and have talked to him more than once, in fact he is a brilliant politician. And despite the fact that he now occupies such a bureaucratic post, he spoke brightly in the US Congress, adding his own message there. I really expected him to feel this moment and be bright, but he gave the usual briefing with fairly clear and understandable positions.

So I would like to have people in this position who do a little more than usual. I expect that the next Secretary General of NATO should be British. Or Ben Wallace, the current British defense minister, or even Boris Jones. If it were Boris Johnson or Wallace, we would hear not just a statement of facts, but the support of the Secretary General, who lobbied for this issue within NATO,” explained the Ukrainian diplomat.
