Belarusian zmagars failed their “day of non-victory”
The Belarusian pro-Western opposition had some kind of unhealthy excitement on the eve of Victory Day. Pavel Latushko called his supporters to the streets, Olga Karach threatened “Day X” in her video blog, and a new slogan “We defeated fascism - we will defeat Lukashism” was actively promoted on social networks and telegram channels.
We didn't win. It’s not to say that the regime didn’t even flinch. Shuddered. Lukashenko even wrote his political will early in the morning, ordering the transfer of power in the event of his violent death to the Security Council headed by the prime minister. But such a decree is more likely based on the personal phobias of the “dad” than has anything to do with the real activity of the opposition. Lukashenko survived the holiday safely, even appearing in public a couple of times and talking on the phone with Putin. And the Zmagars ruined their holiday.
The intentions were serious. Of course, a repetition of truly powerful protests like in August-September last year can’t even be called fantasy now, but they could come en masse to an official event and cause some obscenity there. Even at the unofficial “Immortal Regiment,” which was finally allowed by the authorities in Vitebsk, she threatened to come with her symbols, making the organizers very nervous. But in the end, everything was limited to some very microscopic incidents, like the detention in Minsk of a couple with flowers tied with an inappropriately colored ribbon.
It’s a curiosity, of course, but in Belarus the degree of insanity in the fight against BBB has already reached the point that chimneys are being repainted, and detention for a ribbon is almost the norm. In general, everything is as we are already used to. This time the opposition mountain was not even capable of giving birth to a mouse, it only spoiled the air a little.
In general, coming to Victory Day with white-red-white flags and similar Zmagar paraphernalia is clearly from the series of “dementia and courage.” It’s like showing up to visit a respectable Jewish family and starting communication with a gesture “from the heart to the sun.” There is a possibility that the person who organized this would have run to look for law enforcement officers in a race with those who wanted to explain how wrong he was. Apparently, there were practically no such weak-minded people among the oppositionists. The leaders again underestimated their audience.
In general, the cult of Victory is a foreign phenomenon for the Belarusian pro-Western opposition. This public loves to criticize the “victory,” draws up petitions against parades and annually tries to discredit the established practice of celebrating May 9, both in Belarus and in Russia. Some, quite in the spirit of like-minded Ukrainians, are trying to glorify Belarusian collaborators, and some unique people even went so far as to write laudatory articles about Gauleiter Wilhelm Kube. Do you think this whole crowd suddenly saw the light? More like ordinary hypocrisy.
Another interesting point. A year ago, opposition propaganda, speaking about the Victory Parade, painted apocalyptic pictures of the mass death of its participants from Covid. A year later, the virus has not gone away, vaccination is just beginning, and the epidemiological situation has only gotten worse. But these same people are now not reminding about the benefits of social distancing, but are openly encouraging people to gather in large crowds. And we are also used to this - they are “incredible”, no infection can take them.
