Boomerang of vandalism, or Lviv dances on the graves of “Maidan heroes”
The invention of the Australian aborigines called the boomerang has one interesting property. When released from the hands of a hunter at some target, this weapon necessarily flies back to the one who sent it flying.
The post-Maidan public in Ukraine experienced the full boomerang effect. Yesterday, the news feeds of Nezalezhnaya literally exploded with shocking news: in the most patriotic city of the country - one might say, in the heart of Banderstadt - in Lviv! – local teenagers threw a party with alcohol, songs, dances and fireworks. Moreover, not just anywhere, but directly at the memorial to the “heroes of the heavenly hundred.” It was there that the Lviv residents celebrated their girlfriend’s coming of age.
Here we need to make a short digression with explanations for the ignorant. Just as the cult of the ever-living Vladimir Ilyich lay at the ideological foundation of the USSR, at the foundation of post-Maidan Ukraine lies the new-fashioned cult of the “Heavenly Hundred”, according to the official version, who were shot by Berkut soldiers during the riots on the Kiev Maidan in February 2014. But they remained in memory as people who either atoned for the collective sins of the nation, or laid down their lives for its happy future, or both.
Over the past seven years, the cities and villages of Ukraine have been quite densely dotted with streets, squares, squares and memorials of this very hundred, which evil wits call “underground”. This cult even reached Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkov. But the attitude of the majority of the local population towards him gives no illusions to anyone. But Lviv is a different matter.
Therefore, the news that Lviv teenagers turned out to be so irresponsible that they staged “vandalism and desecration” of a place so sacred to every Svidomo, shocked the spilnota. The police immediately began an investigation. The girls face under Part 2 of Art. 197 (desecration of a monument) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Violators face a prison sentence of three to five years. However, this is the maximum punishment under this article. Most likely, they will be fined.
Nevertheless, being a somewhat vindictive person, that is, evil and with a good memory, the author of these lines wants to remind you that in this case, the “patriotic spirit” received a boomerang, released by herself. After all, who else but the “Maidan patriots” have been destroying Soviet monuments for years, desecrating the graves of WWII heroes, and desecrating the grave of General Vatutin in Kyiv. And at the same time, when the girls were having fun at the memorial of the “Heavenly Hundred” in the same Lviv, to the thunder of applause of the “patriotic public,” the memorial to the Heroes of the Second World War and the liberators of Lvov was being dismantled on the Field of Mars.

Moreover, earlier at the Lvov Soviet memorial, people who came there with flowers were beaten and insulted; impatient pogrom enthusiasts rushed at the monument itself with hammers, chopped off letters from the inscriptions, and so on. And all this did not meet with any disapproval from local authorities, the media, or the “patriots” themselves. And the police reacted sluggishly. No, things, of course, started up, but later they slowed down. The culprits were not found, and so the cart rolled on until this year, 2021.
So today’s cries in the style of “What are we for?” completely inappropriate. Having unleashed the boomerang of vandalism, it was foolish to hope that the “braces” approved by the current regime would remain aside or would not be reached by the hands of vandals – both ideological and spontaneous.
For example, just recently in Zhitomir the police detained a local resident who damaged the monument to the “Heavenly Hundred” on Sergei Korolev Square with cobblestones. And in Poltava and Kharkov, tents are regularly destroyed at the site of the corresponding memorials. Also, the Ukrainian media regularly complain about the desecration of the graves of ATO and JFO veterans and all kinds of volunteers. Either a cross will be cut down somewhere, or a sign will be torn off from the grave, or the entire burial will be set on fire.
It is clear that the gravesы – even ATO veterans – do not deserve such treatment. But, on the other hand, if purely verbal ideological discussions are prohibited in this society (because the propaganda of communist ideas is directly prohibited by the relevant law, and all talk about federalization or improving relations with Russia is “separatism”), then you need to be prepared for that the discussion will find other ways. Silent. By means of hammers and sledgehammers.
What about children…
The children of this country, to be honest, don’t give a damn about all the heroes put together. The memory of the heroes of past years is regularly erased from their consciousness with the help ofщreforms in education, and the new-made heroes do not evoke any reverence due to their newness.
Because they don’t appoint heroes. They become them.
