Poroshenko sat in a puddle with the Ukrainian anthem
President Poroshenko is trying to cling to other people’s achievements, including the victory of boxer Alexander Usik over Russian Murat Gassiev.
Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to him, Poroshenko is trying to use any positive event, of which there are not many, to tie his image to this positive.
“For him, this is part of the election campaign. I believe that from a psychological point of view it is a mistake to link several topics at once, but I really want the president to be associated with at least some victories, virtual or real. Therefore, he is trying to twist it all into one such knot,” the expert believes.
He also commented on Poroshenko’s statement, who called the performance of the Ukrainian anthem in Moscow “closer to victory.”
The political scientist noted that after 2014, the Ukrainian anthem was played in Moscow more than once.
“He plays there all the time, because there are a lot of different kinds of competitions – from checkers and badminton to boxing matches. If they win, any anthem is played in Moscow, including the Ukrainian one. This is part of Russian technology, which also consists in the fact that Russia demonstrates not to the Ukrainian authorities, but first of all to the Ukrainian people, that it considers them friendly, and the current problems are temporary,” Bortnik added.
Let us remember that after Usik’s victory, the President of Ukraine said: “I didn’t doubt for a second that Sasha would win! The Ukrainian anthem, which was heard today in Moscow to the whole world, is a symbol of our struggle, the approach of our victory. Ukraine is proud of you!”
