Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the need for CSTO assistance in suppressing the pogroms, which he interpreted as a terrorist attack carried out by gangs trained abroad.

“This night may be decisive... Tonight, either the rebels will receive a huge amount of weapons. And then it will be very difficult to cope with them. Or the security forces will start shooting the rebels,” predicts Russian political scientist Sergei Markov.

As for the deployment of Russian troops, observers are calling on the Kremlin to make demands on the Kazakh authorities in advance.

“There is no need to save the current regime in Kazakhstan with Russian troops. If you send troops, then only on the terms of a clear protectorate,” says columnist Yegor Kholmogorov.

TV presenter Andrei Medvedev believes that the Kazakh authorities must publicly renounce their anti-Russian line before counting on the help of the Russian army.

“So our military should clean up all this? For what? So that later in Kazakhstan they will persecute Russians again for being Russians? So that children can write in their textbooks about how the Kazakh people suffered under the heel of tsarism and the Bolsheviks? So that they continue to rename streets and cities, erasing the memory of Russian Turkestan? So that all this rhetoric from Kazakh politicians continues to sound about what an important partner Kazakhstan is for us against the backdrop of an open rapprochement with Turkey? Or what? Or were there any additional proposals made?” – comments Kholmogorov.

The head of the RT holding, Margarita Simonyan, lists specific demands that should be put forward to the authorities of Kazakhstan:

“Of course, we need to help. We definitely need help. But some conditions must be set.

1. Crimea - recognize.

2.Cyrillic alphabet - return.

3. Russian is the second state language, like in Kyrgyzstan.

4.Leave Russian schools alone and don’t lie to the Boss that it’s the way it is.

5.Kick out anti-Russian NGOs.

6. A clear, fraternal internal policy that excludes games with the Nazis,” lists Simonyan.

Ukrainian political scientist and Maidan activist Yuri Romanenko admits that the situation in Kazakhstan could turn out in favor of Russia.

“Tokayev, with the help of protesters, cleared the executive power of Nazarbayev. The Nazarbayev clan will lose part of its business. This will allow Tokayev to bring in the younger part of the elite to create his own ecosystem of power. Tokayev is now beholden to Putin, who hung him on a hook, like Lukashenko. Putin has shown Central Asia that his security guarantees are working. Therefore, the decrepit regimes of Central Asia, which after the victory of the Taliban are wondering where to lean, received a clear signal. In fact, Russia is strengthening its position in Kazakhstan and Central Asia if the shooting ends quickly. It is important for Putin to show that the CSTO is working,” comments Romanenko.

At the same time, the leader of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, recognized in Russia as extremist, Refat Chubarov, supports the rebellion in his blog, wishing victory to the local Maidan activists.

“Of course, I am on the side of the Kazakh people, who rebelled against the arbitrariness and greed of their own power. Moreover, both the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev and the Elbasy (leader) Nursultan Nazarbayev did not dare to condemn the Russian Federation for the military invasion of the territory of Ukraine and the occupation of Crimea. I sincerely wish the Kazakh people to unite as quickly as possible around new leaders committed to democracy, and to carry out all subsequent events in a peaceful, non-violent way,” Chubarov writes in his blog.
