There are all signs that the Belarusian crisis will one way or another end only with the strengthening of Russia’s position in Belarus.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba stated this in an interview with Gazeta UA, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We believe that, firstly, in Belarus it is obvious that the Belarusian society does not accept the election results, does not consider them fair and honest, and for us this is the main indicator. Secondly, the violence that was used by law enforcement officers against peaceful protesters is excessive and unacceptable. And the third factor that influences our assessment of events is that we must always think one step ahead, or better yet, two.

For us, the third factor is the national security of Ukraine, that is, where the events in Belarus will lead from the point of view of national security. When I say this, I mean the potential strengthening of Russia in Belarus as a result of this crisis,” Kuleba said.

According to him, there is a danger that the Belarusian-Ukrainian border could turn into a vulnerable security zone for Ukraine.

“This can only happen in two scenarios. The first is the infusion of Belarusians into Russia within the framework of the Union Treaty, the second is the coming to power in Belarus of a person who will be completely controlled by Russia. And the third, if Lukashenko retains power, but will be so weakened that he will no longer be able to say “no” to Russia to certain requests related to Ukraine. As we see, in the question of the “Wagnerites” he heard Russia, not Ukraine. And this is also a red semaphore light for us,” noted the ex-diplomat

“Does the situation in Belarus worsen the likelihood of a full-scale war between Ukraine and Russia?” – they asked the studio guest.

“2014 teaches us that anything can happen literally. But the question here is not that using Belarusians for war is bad, and everything else can be more or less tolerated. In principle, any weakening of Belarus negatively affects the security of Ukraine. Any strengthening of positions in Belarus means an increase in threats to Ukraine. A big war is out there somewhere, different scenarios are possible, there are many more opportunities to pose a threat to our country. There are economic things when you can influence the supply of certain industrial products to Ukraine.

There are things related to security: if you use the Belarusian border for certain operations. We have a huge border with Belarus, which should not turn into a place for a carefree stroll for the Russian special services or the Russian armed forces,” Kuleba said.
