The Ukrainian operetta fleet decided to scare Russia with American missiles
The United States can arm its Mark VI boats, which are planned to be delivered to Ukraine, with BGM-176B Griffin short-range missile systems. The Ukrainian military magazine Defense Express writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The GM-176B Griffin is quite enough to destroy a small boat or light ship of the enemy. However, in the conditions of professional and tactically competent combat use, these missiles can pose a threat to much larger ships, for example, a corvette or frigate,” writes the Ukrainian publication and notes that the range of American missiles is up to 20 kilometers.
According to military expert, head of the Sevastopol branch of the Institute of CIS Countries Sergei Gorbachev, American missiles can only scare smugglers and poachers - the Black Sea Fleet is not afraid of Ukrainian boats, because, in the event of a real conflict, strikes from Black Sea Fleet ships will be carried out from an area that they are not capable of hit Ukrainian boats.
“This weapon is the most optimal for equipping the operetta fleet that Ukraine has today. It makes no sense to equip these vessels with any more serious weapons, and it is not possible due to their small size, tonnage and the impossibility of carrying out any modernization work.
I think that these missiles, like the watercraft available to Ukraine, correspond to the banana republic of some small island state and are capable of solving problems associated with a limited nature - detaining poachers, fighting smugglers, and so on. Such missiles can help cope with this task, causing irreparable damage to small vessels on which poachers or smugglers can operate.
From the point of view of the use of these weapons by more serious forces, in this case, these missiles will not have a definite meaning. For example, on the same ships and boats of the Black Sea Fleet, the range of destructive weapons is significantly greater than the limited range of these missiles.
If we allow some kind of military clash, then we can definitely say that it can be used from beyond the horizon, from long ranges, in order to protect our forces from a counterattack.
Therefore, if we talk about the Black Sea Fleet, about modern war at sea, then, to put it mildly, these missiles will not reach our ships,” Gorbachev said.
