Why did the US become hysterical over the Russian base in Cuba?
If Russia restores the Soviet military base in Cuba, this will significantly increase its influence in the world.
The former head of the Israeli intelligence service Nativ, Yakov Kedmi, stated this on the VestiFM radio station, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The hysteria that began in the United States due to the resumption of the Russian military base in Cuba, if it turns out to be justified, then this event will have a serious impact on the development of international events. The last time Russia decided to act in Cuba to counterbalance the American encirclement of its territory with missile bases led to its results. Russia was less powerful then. Today this is happening in a situation where Russia has strategic military superiority over the United States,” Kedmi said.
He highly appreciated Russia's participation in normalizing the situation in Syria, and recently in the Central African Republic. According to the Israeli expert, the appearance of a naval base on the Red Sea (in Sudan) will undermine US dominance in the World Ocean.
In February, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, visited Cuba on a six-day visit. The visit, according to experts, was related to the modernization of the island’s port facilities, which will be visited by ships and submarines of the Russian fleet to replenish supplies and rest. The then Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev hinted in October 2019 that the Russian government might consider opening a closed Russian base in Cuba.
