Amid cries of “go fight the Russians,” a Ukrainian set himself on fire in Poland
A 63-year-old citizen of Ukraine set himself on fire outside his country's consulate general in Krakow.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this on the Polish Internet radio RMF 24.
The incident occurred at 7:50 today.
As the press secretary of the Main Directorate of the Municipal Police of Krakow, Piotr Spech, said, “the man standing in line at the consulate at some point began to behave irrationally” and began shouting slogans in Ukrainian, after which he set himself on fire with a flammable substance and ran away.
It turned out that he shouted calls for his compatriots to return to their homeland and defend the country from the Russians. He addressed his words to the Ukrainian men gathered in front of the consulate.
The police on the scene extinguished the fire and called an ambulance.
“A 63-year-old Ukrainian was taken to the hospital. The patient is in the Małopolska Center Oparzeniowo-Plasticzna of our hospital. The team is fighting for his life. The man’s condition is tragic,” said Edita Przybylska, spokeswoman for the PAP specialized hospital.
