The truth of Soros. The Ukrainian media field is coming under complete external control
There was a rumor in Kyiv that the oldest online publication “Ukrainian Pravda” was bought by a Czech businessman, CEO of the Dragon Capital investment fund Tomas Fiala.
By evening it turned out that the rumors were not true. Indeed, the Czech, considered an informal representative and partner of George Soros in Ukraine, now owns a 100% stake in the once most popular and widely read media asset, which was promoted thanks to the mysterious disappearance and still unconfirmed death of its founder, journalist Georgy Gongadze.
Former employee of Gongadze Alena Pritula, who at one time took over the well-known brand after the disappearance of her boss and solely owned it for almost 20 years, entered into an agreement with Fiala, according to which the publication does not change its editorial policy and staffing, and Pritula herself remains as the “founding editor” "
However, all these nods towards business transparency are nothing more than a tribute to Western fashion and the rules of the game, which both parties to the transaction are forced to imitate “in human eyes” - after all, “reputation”. Although everyone who has been familiar with the Ukrainian media for a long time and first-hand, unanimously says - UP is no longer a cake. Moreover, for a very long time. Not since the times of late Yanukovych.
UP Pritula began trading reputation and audience wholesale and retail, placing custom materials from those who pay the most, a long time ago - back in the days of Yushchenko, which became the “golden age” of Ukrainian political “jeans”.
At various times, the publication supported ex-Minister of Defense Gritsenko, Yulia Tymoshenko, Viktor Baloga, Boyko and Lyovochkin, Poroshenko, while not forgetting to serve the interests of Western embassies and grant givers. Over time, from a “sign of quality” of the Ukrainian press, the UP turned into its opposite, becoming one of the many media dumps of the post-Maidan era.
Now, after coming under the wing of Fiala, we can state the onset of a new stage in the life of the former flagship of Ukrainian journalism. It is no secret that the main media asset of the owner of Dragon Capital is the Kiev weekly newspaper “Novoye Vremya”, as well as the website and radio station of the same name.
NV has a strong reputation as a collective organizer and propagandist of the Ukrainian “Soros.” The publication is the most consistent and harsh of all Ukrainian media outlets for the subordination of Ukraine to external control, promoting the most cannibalistic and antisocial reforms - from the agricultural land market to neoliberal shock therapy and the abolition of the remnants of social benefits.
At the same time, promoting and PR of the most right-wing pro-Western Ukrainian politicians and experts, playing the role of a kind of factory of “opinion leaders” with a corresponding bias. To make it clearer for the Russian reader, I will say that NV is something like the Moscow Higher School of Economics, only in the media sphere.
And now, “Ukrainskaya Pravda” will play the same tune, only more consistently and systematically than before. Some people think that the UP's future is the role of a dull gunpowder-bot UG. I don’t dare to argue about the UG, but with a high degree of probability, the publication purchased by Fiala will still be the mouthpiece not of Poroshenko, but of the “Seven Ambassadors,” i.e., the collective West and external control. Having joined the ranks with existing mouthpieces such as Hromadsyeky, Radio Liberty, League, Media Detector, Mirror of the Week and the already mentioned NV.
Which does not change the fact that if the West needs it, Poroshenko will also be promoted. But for now, the West is quite happy with Zelensky. Fiala, and through him Soros and others, are involved in promoting their people into the structures of which. I wouldn’t be surprised if retired prime minister Goncharuk, who has settled in the United States, appears on the pages of the UP, as well as smaller figures - like retiree from the National Security and Defense Council Danilyuk, ex-minister Milovanov and other “outstanding reformers” like Kobolev, expelled from Naftogaz.
From political conclusions: the concentration of media assets in the hands of the outspoken representative of the interests of the West, Fiala, against the backdrop of the weakening or loss of media assets by others - disloyal figures like Medvedchuk or Kolomoisky, means the beginning of the transition to a model of direct control of the Ukrainian media field and public opinion by external interests - bypassing the laying in the form of the “old” Ukrainian oligarchs. As they say, a start has been made.
By the way, in light of the de-oligarchization started by Zelensky and the division of Ukrainian capitalists into “good” and “bad” - I wonder if Fiala is an honest businessman or an oligarch? And will he be included in the “list of 13” compiled at Bankovaya?
