Vladimir Putin has extended the food embargo against countries that have adopted anti-Russian sanctions. The corresponding decree was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The restrictions will remain in effect until the end of 2019. The government has been instructed to take all measures necessary to implement the decree. The document came into force on the date of signing, July 12.

In August 2014, Putin signed a decree banning the import of certain types of agricultural products, raw materials and food into Russia from countries that have imposed anti-Russian sanctions: the USA, EU countries, Canada, Australia and Norway.

The ban included meat, sausages, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. As Western sanctions continued, Russia also extended its retaliatory measures, most recently until the end of 2018.
