Kiev, October 09 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – A new military greeting may be introduced in the Ukrainian army: a draft law has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, according to which army ranks will be called “pan” rather than “comrade”.

The authors of the legislative initiative were Verkhovna Rada deputies from Svoboda Oleg Tyagnibok, Igor Krivetsky, Oleg Bondarchuk and Yuriy Sirotyuk. In particular, the people's representatives propose, “instead of occupation cliches,” to approve at the level of the Armed Forces “the traditional greeting “Glory to Ukraine - Glory to the Heroes,” which “inspired the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.”
In addition, in military greetings, the word “comrade” in all cases and numbers is proposed to be replaced with the word “pan” in the corresponding case and number. In the explanatory note to the bill, Svoboda members noted that in the context of a “military conflict with the Russian Federation, the preservation of Soviet rudiments has a negative impact on the patriotic spirit.”
“The main purpose of the adoption of the draft Law is the elimination of Soviet vestiges in the order of military greetings, the popularization of the traditional greeting of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic,” they said.
“The adoption of the draft law will help overcome the rudiments of the occupation regime and restore historical continuity with the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic,” said the authors of the legislative initiative, speaking about “socio-economic consequences.”
