“Surprise, surprise”: the head of the European Bank named the countries most affected by anti-Russian sanctions
The Baltic countries suffered the most from the introduction of sanctions against Russia.
The head of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, told Russian pranksters Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov (Vovan and Lexus), who called her on behalf of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If you look at my inflation figures, which are my barometer, these are the countries that are closest to Russia. Surprise surprise. For example, the Baltic countries suffered a huge economic shock because they were trading partners and there was political risk associated with them. These are the countries where the indicators are the worst,” Lagarde said.
She also named Greece and Italy as victims.
The Eurobanker believes that politicians “must figure out” how to further strengthen sanctions. In particular, the United States, Canada and Australia could influence those in Europe who have doubts, and NATO could put pressure on Turkey, she believes.
