In Kazakhstan today, a court increased to 10 years the prison term of social activist Ermek Taychibekov, who advocated reunification with Russia into a single state and was previously arrested on charges of inciting ethnic hatred.

The Pavlodar court today also found the Russophile guilty of “dissemination of knowingly false information” and “dissemination of pornographic materials.” Judge Dzhuzbayeva sentenced Taychibekov to four years in prison. By adding this and previously passed sentences, the prison term of the social activist disliked by the authorities was increased to ten years of strict regime.

As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the reason for the new trial was the accusation of “insulting the honor and dignity” of Pavlodar judge Aketai. Taichibekov allegedly distributed a video on social networks with homosexual pleasures of a man who looked like a judge.

The trial on this charge proceeded at an accelerated pace - the trial took only three days, and with procedural violations – the defendant was not even given the opportunity to familiarize himself with the case materials, and the defense was not given the opportunity to present all their arguments.

Now Ermek Taychibekov faces another trial - about insulting Nursultan Nazarbayev, whom the social activist called “senile.”

In August of this year, a Kazakh Russophile, who called for the integration of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation and supported the Russian Donbass fighting against post-Maidan Ukraine, received seven years of strict regime for inciting ethnic hatred, for speaking about discrimination against Russians in an interview with the Russian portal Ukraina.ru in Kazakhstan, and in an interview with the Israeli Iton.TV about how the Kazakh authorities condoned the pogroms of the Dungans.
