Experts ridiculed the performance with the appointment of Denisova as ombudsman
Kyiv experts interviewed by PolitNavigator called the appointment of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova, a party comrade of the most odious politicians heading Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies, absurd.
“The candidacy put forward by the Popular Front is obviously not acceptable as a neutral figure. This is a radical organization that does not enjoy trust in society and has a zero rating. It gathered in its ranks absolutely radical figures, the Nazis. This young lady is not one of those radicals, but she is part of the team. Therefore, there is no trust in her. I don't believe that she can be a defender of people's rights. If she were so arranged, then she would be disdainful of remaining in the team of such people as Yatsenyuk, Pashinsky and Turchinov. Since she has settled in there and feels comfortable, what hope can there be that she will be objective, that she will be a defender of human rights? None,” said political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky.
“Denisova cannot be an objective ombudsman for human rights, if only for the reason that she represents the party that includes one of the main violators of human rights, Avakov. One of the functions of the commissioner is to monitor compliance with human rights in the law enforcement system. But we know that it is capable of covering up violations in the law enforcement system. Denisova has a dark, bad background in this area, dating back to the days of her activities in Crimea and her activities as Minister of Social Policy in the Tymoshenko government. But she is not capable of any objectivity.

And in general, the ombudsman institution in Ukraine has shown extreme ineffectiveness throughout its existence. The number of requests to the Ombudsman exceeds a million, and the share of cases of real assistance in these requests (these are statistics from the Ombudsman himself) is 0,8%. Of course, this is not a question for Denisova, but for her predecessors. But the fact is that the institution of ombudsman in Ukraine exists, but only to collect appeals, and it does not have any real influence,” says political scientist Alexander Semchenko.
