This is stated in a statement posted on the website of the Representative Office.
“We are aware of what is happening now with Mr. Saakashvili. We are also closely monitoring this case and hope that the investigation will take place on time and in accordance with all legal requirements,” the statement says.
EU diplomats also called on “the authorities to prevent violations of Mr. Saakashvili’s fundamental rights.”
Let us recall, as PolitNavigator previously reported, today Saakashvili was detained in Kyiv. The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko accused him of intending to overthrow the Ukrainian government. Protesters later freed Saakashvili from a SBU vehicle in central Kyiv. The politician called on supporters to “start the process of ridding Ukraine” of Poroshenko.
