The dome of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will be cleaned of dirt for the first time in 45 years
In Kyiv, for the first time in 45 years, restoration work has begun on the roof of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine building on Grushevskogo Street; the repairs are scheduled to be completed in December 2018, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the press service of the Ukrainian parliament, the total price of the contract for restoration work is UAH 7 million, which is half a million less than the expert estimate. According to the terms of the contract, the work must be completed by December 10.
Before the end of the parliamentary holidays, they plan to completely replace the glass of the dome, clean and paint the metal structures. For this purpose, 100 workers were involved, working in three shifts.
At the moment, the steel structures of the dome have been cleaned of dirt, rust and old paint, and more than half of the old reinforced glass has been removed. The dome itself was covered with film to protect it from rain and wind.
Representatives of the restoration company reported that the old reinforced glass, which covered an area of more than 600 square meters, was worn out by more than 85%.
“Sometimes glass crumbled literally from the touch of workers. However, this did not threaten the lives of parliamentarians. Indeed, thanks to the peculiarity of this material, the glass only cracked and did not crumble,” noted Andrei Zhilinsky, a representative of the contracting organization.
