“Today, for us, a Russian, even including just a normal ethnic Russian, is already a priori a potential enemy,” said employee Yuri Makarov on the first channel of the National Radio of Ukraine. Former host of the “embassy evenings” organized by Mikhail Zurabov in Kyiv. A hereditary Russian nobleman with a good pedigree and perfectly literate speech! Not the “Diyasporian” Suprun, nor the Galician Vyatrovich or the newcomer Pashtun Nayem. How could this happen?

The pedigree and biography of Makarov are well known. From the emigrants of the first wave, who somehow miraculously escaped repression in Bulgaria during the time of the local Secretary General Vylko Chervenkov. When Yura was three years old, he was transported to Kyiv, then his father returned to Sofia and received a sentence under a political article already during the rather herbivorous reign of Todor Zhivkov. His mother is a chamber singer.

There was not a single active Ukrainian in his family tree. Here, for example, is what Makarov himself said about his grandfather: “This is my mother’s father. He was born in Zaporozhye, but was brought up in the cadet corps in Nizhny Novgorod. I didn’t know Ukrainian, except for a few sayings. He spoke Russian, called himself Russian, while in the house there was a collection of Shevchenko’s works in Russian translation, and a portrait of Taras Grigorievich hung above his grandfather’s desk. In addition, a couple of landscape drawings remained from my grandfather - a hut, poplars, a girl in a wine... Apparently, this was his way of expressing nostalgia.”

So the origin of Makarov’s stubbornness is different, Kiev.

Do you know what the wealthy Kiev humanitarian fears most in the world? Yes, that Kyiv will suddenly turn into an ordinary provincial city, where salaries and fees are not in the capital, and the audience to which you can broadcast is limited by the administrative borders of the region. Yes, and this is the best case scenario. Who needs you in the regional centers, because there they have their own problems, their own interests, and you have absolutely nothing to say to these people!

And here a unique opportunity arises for a simple translator and editor who cannot travel abroad at a film studio to be on camera and publish books. And, as you think, the main thing is to produce new meanings. Inventing Ukraine from scratch from scraps and fragments that seem incompatible to anyone not involved in this process. Moreover, a place has appeared where you can sell your face for good money (the first years of the “1+1” channel) and a couple more places where they publish your texts - extremely intelligible and written of high quality, simply because your parents did not raise you're a redneck.

True, life in the capital of the Ukrainian SSR has taught you that the classics of Marxism must not only be quoted, but always with pauses and aspiration, and, moreover, only in English. Well, then, just think, he replaced Shcherbitsky with Kravchuk, and then with Bandera. After all, everyone in your environment is doing it.

Well, yes, of course, creating these very meanings and being in plain sight, you have to hold your nose tightly and obviously agree that next to you is the audience that the concierge at the entrance of your elite house would never allow beyond the front door. True, this audience, under your strict guidance, soon learned to use deodorant and the toilet, and even learned the most common English phrases. And you somehow missed the moment when she was allowed to enter decent Kyiv houses, she settled down there and tolerates you with difficulty, as well as your friends Veresnya and Gordon.

And so that they don’t feel like you’re a Muscovite, as you think, you should look even more racially correct than Andrukhovich or Karpa. It’s a little easier for Gordon: at least he’s not required to scold Jews. He can simply join the majority in his environment and at some moments feel that he is not a minority. What about Makarov? It used to be that he could spend evenings at the Russian embassy talking not only about Bandera, but also about Russian classics. Now - that’s it, the scam is over!

And how you don’t want to become persecuted or just step aside! No, you need to become Ukrainian to an even greater extent than the most born Ragul! What if they accept you as an honorary Aryan?

No, these will not accept or thank you. They will simply wait for the moment when the favored stranger stumbles, or a banal reduction in staff. By the way, Makarov is already at retirement age - it’s time to give way to the young. And these very young ones will probably choose their “title” and “racially correct”.
