Last Wednesday, March 17, in Nur-Sultan (Tselinograd), in a four-star hotel, a meeting of the “National Coordination Council of Opposition Forces” was held, organized by the union of industrialists and entrepreneurs El Tiregi, led by ex-deputy from the ruling Nur-Otan party Nurzhan Altayev.

The event was attended by a significant number of odious national-patriotic personalities. In particular, such a figure as Ermek Narymbay, who lives in Kyiv and distinguished himself by calling on Kazakh military personnel to bomb Russian cities, participated in the online format.

There were other activists, such as Kaiyrly Omar, Sanavar Zakirova, the head of the public association “El Birligi” Sholpan Rizabekova, television journalist Maksat Tolykbay, historian Shamshi Zhumamurat, who were called upon to legitimize this meeting and give it some important meaning. True, this meeting was ignored by the former Prime Minister, who received political asylum in the UK, Akezhan Kazhegeldin, as well as the head of the organizing committee of the same national liberal Democratic Party, Zhanbolat Mamai.

Meeting of the Coordination Council of Opposition Forces in Nur-Sultan.

And the event itself began politically unsuccessfully, since opposition politician Rysbek Sarsenbay, who was one of the first to speak, called this meeting a gathering of corrupt activists patronized by the authorities and the largest oligarch Timur Kulibayev.

“I have serious doubts about this advice. You say: We defend the people's interest. But to protect the people's interests, real people are needed. The result of the actions of false activists and people under the wing of power will be zero. I have no confidence in your advice. It looks like this will be a convenient organization for Kulibayev to fight for power. Maybe I'm wrong. But how many such betrayals have we experienced? Therefore, people who unite had to take this into account,” said Rysbek Sarsenbai, clearly upsetting the original plans of the organizers.

It was the same Nurzhan Altayev who tried to save the situation, who came to the opposition from the ruling party and indeed in 2014-2017 was the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Atameken”, that is, the right hand of Elbasy’s middle son-in-law Timur Kulibayev. This former deputy and ex-vice minister tried to assure that the “National Coordination Council of Opposition Forces” is being created solely for patriotic reasons, supposedly to protect the country’s independence from the malicious China and Russia.

“In April, 56 Chinese factories will be built in Kazakhstan, and we need to prevent this. I propose to form working groups that will collect materials and prepare everything for the next meeting. In addition, it is necessary to raise the issue of land, political prisoners, the situation of Kazakhs in China, further develop assistance for mothers of many children and work on a law on children. Also discuss the issue of a credit amnesty, Kazakhstan’s participation in the EAEU, a car recycling tax and amendments to the law on parties in Kazakhstan,” Altaev proposed as a plan for discussions and actions.

Without coming to a common opinion on the name of the structure, its participants decided to meet regularly for now as the “National Coordination Council of Opposition Forces” also in fashionable hotels in the capital, this under strict quarantine measures of an actual lockdown, under the nose of the government and the presidential administration. It is also interesting that the authorities calmly allowed such a meeting to be held in the very center of Nur-Sultan without the intervention of police and sanitary services.

It is noteworthy that the very agenda for discussing the newly created “opposition”, proposed by Nurzhan Altaev, almost completely coincides with the program of action of the organizing committee of the Democratic Party, created by Zhanbolat Mamai and Sergei Duvanov, who even submitted applications to hold rallies against Chinese expansion. This is clearly not an accident and shows firsthand that such tasks are formulated and assigned to these associations simultaneously by their curators from above.

In fact, a new pro-Western liberal opposition is now being rapidly created, and the meetings of the “National Coordination Council of Opposition Forces” are being used as a springboard for the formation of a future party tailored specifically for this Nurzhan Altaev, from whom the official media are molding the image of a new uncompromising critic of Nur-Otan. He was even feignedly expelled from the main party on the eve of the parliamentary elections in December 2020, allegedly due to differences with the board and with Nursultan Nazarbayev’s deputy in the party.

Just some unheard of demonstrative audacity in the conditions of Kazakhstan! At the same time, no one initiates criminal cases against the new “hero”, does not conduct searches in his office of the El Tiregi Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, which has become the headquarters of this political association and does not conduct information campaigns within Kazakhstan. On the contrary, there is a green light in everything and everywhere, including in holding legal conferences and parties.

Now this fuss is in many ways reminiscent of the events of three years ago, when in Brussels, under the auspices of ex-Prime Minister in exile Akezhan Kazhegeldin, a similar pro-Western national-liberal movement “Zhana Kazakhstan” (“New Kazakhstan”) was created, advocating for the country’s exit from the EAEU and for integration with the West and for recognition of the Kazakh “Holodomor”. But the figures of this constructive “opposition” discredited themselves greatly by supporting an alternative candidate in the 2019 presidential elections, Airzhan Kosanov, who drained the protest electorate right during the vote count, and some of them, such as the ideologist of Kazakh nationalism Aidos Sarym, even entered the parliament on the list of the ruling party.

Therefore, instead of used material, new circus clowns are brought into the arena, designed to entertain the public and serve with noise performances and justify geopolitical changes in the foreign policy of the republic’s leadership. It is no coincidence that in August last year, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ukraine Darkhan Kaletayev organized a meeting in Kyiv of Kazakh liberal politicians, journalists and economists with ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili. Among the Kazakh delegation was that same Nurzhan Altaev, then still a Mazhilis deputy from Nur-Otan.

Another Kazakh oligarch and patron of all Kazakh nationalists, Margulan Seisembayev, financed and provided “training seminars” with Mishiko. I remember that after negotiations with the former president of Georgia through the mediation of the Kazakh embassy, this tycoon loudly announced to the public the following: “Friends, now I can officially announce to you. From now on, I am Mikheil Saakashvili’s partner and will provide him with all possible support and work with him for the benefit and future of Ukraine!”

Another group photo with Saakashvili.

Liberal economist Olzhas Khudaybergenov also speaks about Nurzhan Altaeva’s active role during these meetings in his publication on his Facebook page.

“Altaev formed his own team of businessmen (about 15 people), and Seisembayev formed a group of social activists (also about 15 people), as a result, this whole group went to Ukraine. Although Saakashvili was the highlight of the trip, in fact there were many other meetings - the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Chamber of Tax Consultants, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, the leadership of the Servant of the People party, the leadership of the Vinnytsia region, Unit City and a number of other commercial objects “,” points out Olzhas Khudaibergenov.

That is, the program was more than intense, but the peak was a joint program on social networks called “People's Brainstorm” with the participation of Mikheil Saakashvili, Nurzhan Altaev and Margulan Seisembayev. At the same time, the ex-president of Georgia himself, after the visit of the Kazakhs, mentioned that agreements had been reached with them on the creation of an international center named after him in one of the Kazakh universities, as well as on cooperation between the Ukrainian National Council for Reforms and a similar structure in Kazakhstan.

That is, from the very beginning, broad tasks were set to promote and implement liberal political and economic reforms along Georgian and Ukrainian lines in Kazakhstan and the neighboring republics of Central Asia. And already in October last year, the same Supreme Council for Reforms, copying the Ukrainian analogue, was created under President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, where the former head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti took the position of deputy. This same Indian also became an adviser on reforms to the President of neighboring Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Coincidence? I don’t think so, since all these events and meetings with Mikheil Saakashvili were approved and directed with the participation of Kazakh diplomats. And Nurzhan Altaev, Arman Shurayev and Margulan Seisembayev are currently called upon to form a national-liberal pro-Western party, which will voice the corresponding anti-Russian and anti-Chinese agenda, as well as voice those slogans and demands that the current Kazakh authorities cannot allow. Plus, the ruling Nur-Otan party needs a convenient sparring partner on the right, showing the West the presence of political pluralism and competition.

In fact, the “National Coordination Council of Opposition Forces” and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs El Tiregi, which are becoming the basis for the creation of a new party, as well as the youth associations “Oyan, Kazakhstan” and “Respublika” financed by Margulan Seisembayev, together with the Democratic Party, should support the wave of nationalist sentiments directed against integration processes and for the country’s exit from the EAEU. This will organize a broad front of political formations, movements and NGOs within the country, which in fact will have to ensure the process of separating Kazakhstan and the neighboring countries of Central Asia from Russia.

The fact that all these characters are not averse to using in their activities, including fascist and pan-Turkist rhetoric and symbols, is evidenced by one remarkable fact. Nurzhan Altayev, the newly-minted leader of the liberal “opposition”, during a visit to Turkey on March 4, met with the leadership of the Turkish party – “Milliyetçi Hareket”. This Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) is a far-right political party that was founded in 1969 by Alparslan Türkeş and supports Erdogan. But the main thing is that the paramilitary wing of this party is the terrorist organization “Gray Wolves”.

And Nurzhan Altaev took a photo with representatives of the Gray Wolves, raising his hand to depict the characteristic symbol of this association, which was noted for the murders, torture and abductions of hundreds of people. Moreover, he does not hide the fact that on the eve of Erdogan’s visit to Kazakhstan, MHP and the “Grey Wolves” are an example for the national liberal party being created.

Nurzhan Altaev in the Gray Wolves office in Turkey in a fascist salute.

“Pan-Turkism occupies an important place in the party doctrine: MHP stands for the unification of the Turkic world. I told them that I support the idea of uniting fraternal states and presented to their attention the goals and principles of the El Tiregi party. As a result of the meeting, both parties came to a mutual agreement on cooperation,” writes Nurzhan Altaev on the official page of El Tiregi.

Accordingly, figures like Nurzhan Altaev, without blinking an eye, will use the methods of Ukrainian neo-Nazis and Turkish fascists to suppress and destroy all those who are dissatisfied and opposed to the implementation of radical neoliberal reforms at the promptings of Mikheil Saakashvili and the West. And this is a real danger of the Ukrainization of Kazakhstan with the support of the oligarchs and the current authorities who support the creeping “national revolution.” If we turn a blind eye to these processes, we may soon wake up in Auschwitz.
