The head of the Prosvita society, Pavel Movchan, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Almost a quarter of a century ago in Crimea, through the efforts of Prosvita and the Ukrainians of Crimea, such a publication as Crimean Svitlitsa was formed and published. For a long time it was the only publication on the entire peninsula. This is an example of how, in the presence of “Crimean Truth” and everything where we were called Bandera and where I was the number one fascist, for a long time I maintained this position of leadership in Crimea. They set me up... starting from the airport when I arrived on vacation, and ending with the technical workers of one or another sanatorium... I won’t name. I was treated like an enemy. I was “stamped,” says Movchan.
According to him, today it is very important to preserve this newspaper, since “the majority of Ukrainians remain in Crimea.”
“They haven’t gone anywhere, this is their homeland. But what is the current government doing? Today financing is being taken off the agenda. “Prosvita”, due to its poverty, is not capable, because we financed it partially, it was the workforce, local funding, prepayment, and we did everything. And this is how the government wants to liquidate it,” the Ukrainian nationalist was indignant.
According to him, Prosvita wants to write to the president about financing the newspaper.
“We did it in difficult conditions and now handing over this newspaper is a betrayal. This is the evil of Ukraine. She should be qualified as such. Or the incompetence of the authorities who make this decision,” Movchan said.
