The Constitutional Court of Ukraine has recognized as constitutional the law “On Education”, which has caused many complaints both in Ukraine and abroad, which contains norms that, according to the authors of the submission to the court, are discriminatory in relation to the rights of national minorities, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Minister of Education and Science Liliya Grinevich wrote about this on her Facebook page.

“The language article of the Law “On Education” has been recognized as constitutional!!!” — wrote Grinevich.

As the Kiev publication UNN reports, the Constitutional Court actually made a corresponding decision today.

“The decision was made at a meeting held behind closed doors,” said the publication’s interlocutor at the Constitutional Court.

On October 4, 2018, the Constitutional Court began considering the submission of people’s deputies regarding the constitutionality of Article 7 of the Law “On Education”, according to which education in Ukrainian schools and universities is conducted exclusively in the Ukrainian language. On September 5, 2017, people's deputies of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and in general the draft law “On Education”, which, in particular, determines that the language of the educational process in educational institutions is exclusively Ukrainian. This law has caused discontent in Hungary, which is blocking Kyiv's Euro-Atlantic aspirations, hoping to change Ukraine's position on the issue of ensuring the rights of children of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia to education in their native language.

Let us note that today the Ukrainian language law has become the subject of consideration by the UN Security Council.
