One reason for this, according to the influential world publication, is the influx of other news from “the global economic collapse to the flow of desperate Arab and African migrants to Europe, as well as the exciting urgency of the US presidential campaign.” But there is another equally important reason: “Putin appears to have won his little war in Ukraine, and his Western critics are watching from the sidelines, inflamed with helpless rage,” admits the Washington newspaper.

The publication writes: “Within weeks, Putin and Poroshenko reached an agreement on a ceasefire... Earlier this year, German Chancellor Angela Merkel rushed to agree on another ceasefire, but she knew that the agreement depended largely on Poroshenko and his Kyiv colleagues. There was progress in expanding the form of legitimacy of rebel leaders in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and granting them autonomous status within Ukraine. It was a bitter pill for Poroshenko. He faced violent opposition from right-wing extremists and serious economic and political problems in the country."

Washington Post ironically notes: “Ukrainians have an impossible dream - they dream of transporting their entire country by magical transport to Western Europe, where it will flourish in a Western democracy with a dynamically developing economy. She deserves a future like this. But he won’t be able to get it.”

The publication is forced to admit: “Whether we like it or not, Russia is the dominant force in Eastern Europe, and no way out of the current crisis can really arise unless and until Russia and Ukraine take the path of truce and peaceful coexistence.” .

The American newspaper notes: “Putin treats Ukraine well, which makes him similar to other Russian leaders. He doesn't do anything new. His definition of happiness is a Slavic Confederation consisting of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine...” And he adds: “Putin can tolerate an independent Ukraine as long as it is “friendly” with Russian national interests, and, like any good despot, he trusts only himself define this friendship for yourself. He hinted that he would like to convene a conference similar to the 1945 Yalta meeting, at which he and other world leaders would redraw the post-1991 map of Europe.”

Let us remind you that the newspaper Washington Post one of the platforms for expressing official US policy. This publication may indicate a global agreement on the Ukrainian conflict, which flared up after the illegal forceful removal of the current president in early 2014.
