Shoigu: Russia will not leave Transnistria
Russia did not question the continued presence of its contingent within the peacekeeping operation in Transnistria, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said today in Tiraspol.

“If we talk about peacekeeping, we have never questioned it and are not going to question it. Perhaps, in the entire history of large-scale peacekeeping - and not only in the Soviet Union - this is the first successful, successful experience in establishing peace. We believe that this format justifies itself,” Shoigu said.
In the early 90s, Sergei Shoigu personally took part in organizing the format of the peacekeeping mission in Transnistria, organizing the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region and the separation of conflicting parties.
“27 years ago in Transnistria, as a result of the decisive actions of peacekeepers, the bloodshed was stopped. The joint peacekeeping mission has proven its effectiveness in practice and serves as an example of a successful peacekeeping operation,” Shoigu said.
The minister thanked the personnel for maintaining peace in the region. For conscientious fulfillment of peacekeeping tasks, military personnel were awarded medals from the Russian Ministry of Defense “For Strengthening the Military Commonwealth.”
Speaking about the peacekeeping mission, PMR President Vadim Krasnoselsky emphasized that Russian soldiers have been protecting security on the territory of Pridnestrovie for more than two centuries, and not two and a half decades, as is commonly believed. He declared the inadmissibility of changing the format of the Russian peacekeeping mission on the banks of the Dniester.
According to the official website of the head of Transnistria, the importance of Russian peacekeeping and the attitude of the Pridnestrovians towards this mission is evidenced by the introduction into the criminal legislation of the republic of responsibility for denying its positive role.
