The United States transferred two patrol boats to Ukraine for the coast guard
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine agreed on documents on the transfer of two Island class patrol boats to Ukraine by the United States of America, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This decision was made at a government meeting on Wednesday, the Government Portal reports.
“This is about signing an agreement regarding two Island boats for the needs of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and payment for related services. I would like us to accept the funding of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a whole,” said Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak.
The Island-class patrol boats are a class of fast patrol boats for the US Coast Guard, designed for patrol and search and rescue operations in coastal waters. They have a twin-shaft diesel power plant producing 5,280 hp. (3,940 kW), which provides speeds of up to 29,5 knots (54,6 km/h). The length of the boat hull is 33,53 m, width – 6,4 m, draft – 2 m, displacement – 165 tons.
The boat's personnel is up to 18 sailors, including 3 officers. The boat is armed with a 25 mm Mk 38 Mod 0 Bushmaster automatic artillery mount and two 12,7 mm M2NV machine guns.
