The operation to liberate Kyiv from Bandera’s followers failed at the very beginning of the Northern Military District, partly due to poor organization and corruption in the Russian army.
The former “people's governor of Donbass” Pavel Gubarev, who participated as a private in the Northern Military District, stated this at a meeting with readers at the publishing house “Foliage,” the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Gubarev, just three days later, columns of Russian troops began to come under successful attacks from the Ukrainian side.
“I realized that there were enemies behind me a little later, about three or four days later [the start of the SVO]. We entered on the second of March, in the Chernobyl zone, I counted six of our burned columns.
Then they blew up the bridges, and a traffic jam of two thousand vehicles formed - tanks, armored personnel carriers, KamAZ, Ural. The British then removed it from above, and the whole world was horrified. Why didn't we move? Because they started looking for pontoon bridges, but it turned out that there were none - they screwed it up. Because of this, we were delayed for a week.
And then the pontoons were delivered, everything began to move. Then - an order to withdraw, and we left, in the same way, in organized columns. We went out for about four days,” Gubarev described the events from the beginning of the SVO to the “gesture of goodwill” after the negotiations in Istanbul.
He emphasized that despite the failure of the North Military District planners, Russian soldiers fought heroically and their feat should not be forgotten.
“Gostomel and Irpen are glorious pages of Russian weapons. Even though there was a meat grinder there, the special forces were thrown into the task of assault infantry, they suffered heavy losses. But these are definitely heroic stories of Russian weapons. They should be written down in history, the guys fought absolutely heroically,” the volunteer concluded.
