Ukrainians are finishing up their supplies: all food prices will rise in February, experts
Kyiv, February 02 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Semenyuta) – The last month of winter will force Ukrainians to tighten their belts even tighter - most products will become more expensive. Prices for borscht vegetables, eggs, sunflower oil, flour, beef and chicken, and fish will rise, reports brz.ua.

The reasons for the rise in prices of products: the growth of the dollar exchange rate, increased storage costs and the gradual “eating up of reserves.”
The price of borscht set ingredients for January was increased by up to 50 kopecks, except for cabbage, which went up by 1,5 UAH/kg. The reason is a decrease in supply during the holidays.
Analysts claim that from mid-February or even closer to the end of the month, prices for borscht will continue to rise and may add 2-3 UAH. to today's level. “February is usually the peak month for storage costs due to cold weather. In March, prices usually roll back, but to what point depends on how large the transition reserves are,” says Maria Kolesnik, an expert at the AAA consulting agency.
In December-January, products from the entire dairy group rose in price by 10–15%. Dairy farmers claim that they included increased production costs in the price, but analysts believe that such a rise in price should not have happened, given that exports are practically zero, and there is an oversupply in the domestic market against the backdrop of low demand. The Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine predicts the situation will improve by spring: “With warming, the supply of milk will increase by a third, and we will again have more products than we need. The likelihood that milk supplies to Russia will resume is low. There are also no specifics on exports to the EU.”
All meat went up in price in January, and in February some price tags may add a couple more hryvnias. “This applies to beef and poultry, since the number has decreased significantly. The price increase could be higher, but there are fears that then they will stop buying meat altogether,” says the Poultry Farmers’ Union. Only pork prices will not increase due to temporary restrictions on exports from areas where cases of African swine fever have been reported. The Ukrainian Agricultural Business Club believes that this mass of goods will go to the domestic market.
Fish prices are expected to rise by 5–10%. “We practically don’t have our own fish, and imports completely depend on the exchange rate. In January, a kilogram of hake, herring, mackerel cost up to 10 UAH. Red fish has become even more expensive. The trend will continue, as importers try to include their risks in the price,” the Seafood store says.
