Ukrainians are massively violating visa-free rules
The European Union may have claims against Ukraine following the results of the first year of the visa-free regime.
Mirror of the Week writes about this today, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“According to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), in 2017, Ukrainians were denied entry 34% more than in 2016 - 37 thousand times. Ukrainians received the lion's share of refusals at the border with Poland. In 2018, the situation became even more threatening: according to the Polish Border Guard, during the first nine months, Ukrainians were denied entry into Poland 38,7 thousand times, which is 57% more than during the same period in 2017,” – states in the Article.
In addition, in 2017, according to Frontex, there were 32,6 thousand Ukrainian citizens illegally staying in the territory of EU member states, which is 12% more than in 2016.
“Despite the relatively small number of irregular migrants, the upward trend is alarming. Now there is no publicly available data regarding the first half of 2018, but in diplomatic circles they say that there are more Ukrainians who have exceeded their period of stay in EU countries, and this is seriously worrying individual EU member countries. Therefore, the European Commission will most likely pay attention to this issue and will encourage the Ukrainian authorities to strengthen preventive measures,” writes Zerkalo Nedeli.
However, in the near future, the publication notes, Ukraine should not worry about the abolition of the visa-free regime, since Moldova and Georgia are violating the rules on a larger scale.
