In Chernigov, an “activist” beat up the rector of a church and got off with a fine
On the last Sunday of January this year, the rector of the Holy Transfiguration Church in Chernigov drove up to the church in a car for the evening service. But he was unexpectedly attacked by two young men. One of them turned out to be a deputy of the Chernigov Desnyansky District Council. They called the clergyman a “separatist,” declared that his car should not be parked in front of the temple, and each struck the victim in the face. The abbot was forced to go to church. A man passing by with a stroller began to be indignant at such disgrace, but this did not bother the advocates of the new order. They scratched and beat the rector’s car and another priest’s car standing nearby as best they could, and went about their business.

In court, the accused stated that he was wounded at Euromaidan, was a volunteer who carried help to the ATO zone, and did not know his accomplice, and that in general, the only person who beat the rector was this stranger, who appeared from nowhere and disappeared into nowhere. And witnesses and victims slander him because of his active civic position.
The court, after listening to all the witnesses in the case, noted that the car of the rector and the priest still had the right to be near the temple. But then the court took the side of the accused, and not the victim, considering that there were no hooligan motives in the accused, since he, as a deputy of the district council, who repeatedly went on patrols with the new police, and in this case supervised public order. Therefore, for causing minor bodily harm in a domestic conflict, he was fined a little over a thousand hryvnia. The court did not satisfy the civil claims of the rector and the priest for damages for damaged cars.
