In Kyiv they want to build a cosmodrome to quickly become Europeans
The Space Logistics Ukraine team, which lobbies for the development of the space ecosystem, held a discussion panel “Will there be a cosmodrome in Ukraine?”, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The founder of the company and initiator of the event, Dmitry Legeza, spoke about the stages of the project.
“The first and very important issue is the legislative structure. Currently, space activities in Ukraine are under a state monopoly. The implementation of the concept of “New Space” (that is, space activities open to private enterprises) requires significant updating of the Legislation of Ukraine,” he noted.
At the first stage, it is planned to determine the territorial possibility of building a cosmodrome on the territory of Ukraine.
“Experts note that this part of the project will last about 5 months. After this, it will be known to what extent this idea can be implemented,” explained Legeza.
This is followed by the creation of the “Space Innovation Association”.
“Its main task is the cooperation of all industry participants (from rocket manufacturers to bloggers) for the development of this sector. They will keep abreast of legislative initiatives and educational programs. In general, the creation of an association is necessary in order to support and help each other for the sake of a common goal - the development of a full-fledged space industry,” he noted.
Company advisor Valentin Gadenov pointed out the scientific and technical benefits of building a cosmodrome in Ukraine.
“There are currently 16 active cosmodromes in the world. People always ask the same question: “What is the point of building a spaceport not at the equator? It’s not financially profitable.” In fact, nowadays it is not necessary to launch every rocket from the equator. The distance from it will only affect fuel consumption - at a northern latitude more of it will be needed. Trajectory corrections occur already in orbit. And one more very important detail. If a country has a modern spaceport on its territory, this means that the political situation of the country will change. They begin to talk differently with a country that has a “window to space” on the world stage,” he concluded.
