The Ukrainian Armed Forces plan to cut off the DPR from the Sea of Azov
The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed intelligence information DPR about the upcoming provocation of Ukraine on the border of the republic and the Russian Federation.
Thus, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova emphasized at today’s briefing in Moscow that the Ukrainian army is planning an offensive in the Mariupol area in order to cut off the republic from the Sea of Azov and the border with the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the coming days, Kiev intends to organize an armed provocation on the contact line in order to take advantage of the martial law regime introduced, including in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, to organize a rapid offensive in the Mariupol direction with the aim of seizing the territory of the Azov region under the control of Donetsk and reaching border with Russia.
It is planned to use a concentrated military group to carry out combat missions. Its replenishment of forces and means has been carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the past months, as has been repeatedly reported by the OSCE SMM. Only in the period from December 1 to 7, OSCE observers discovered 190 units of heavy weapons and equipment prohibited by the Minsk agreements outside the designated storage areas,” Zakharova said.
According to her, this provocation will help Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko raise his falling rating and prolong martial law.
“According to the plan of Kyiv strategists, Ukrainian President Poroshenko needs this sharp escalation of the situation. You need it like air to try to stop the steadily declining popularity rating on the eve of the elections. This sharp escalation of the situation in Donbass will give Poroshenko a reason to extend martial law until the possible cancellation of the elections,” said a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, the official representative of the DPR operational command, Eduard Basurin, said that in preparation for the offensive operation, the Ukrainian command continues to be drawn into the war zone in the Donbass, personnel and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
