Crimean Tatar spoke at the UN: Ukraine is lying!
In Crimea, three languages are successfully functioning at the state level - Crimean Tatar, Russian and Ukrainian. At the same time, in neighboring Ukraine, over the past few years, total Ukrainization and discrimination of ethnic minorities have been carried out.
This was stated by the former director of the Crimean Tatar TV channel “Millet”, journalist Ervin Musaev, within the framework of a video conference held by the UN Security Council according to the Arria formula, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“People from Ukraine regularly contact us about oppression based on their language. On July 16, 2019, the law of Ukraine on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language came into force. The law regulates the use of Ukrainian as the only state language in all spheres of public life in the country. It should become mandatory for state authorities and local governments, for all educational institutions, hospitals and service sectors.
At the same time, the languages of the peoples living for centuries on the territory of a given state are fading into oblivion. What should hundreds of thousands of Russians, Belarusians, Hungarians, Poles, Romanians, Crimean Tatars and other peoples do, how can they preserve themselves, because this law of Ukraine contradicts the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?” Musayev said.
He also called on the UN Security Council to influence Ukraine, which cut off the water supply to the peninsula via the North Crimean Canal:
“Ukraine organized an energy and water blockade for Crimea. This topic is extremely rarely heard in the world media. But there is something to talk about. How in the 21st century can you turn off water and electricity to two and a half people? For six years, water has not been supplied to Crimea through the North Crimean Canal, which was built by many countries. All this contradicts all the foundations of international law. I am confident that resources must be found at the UN to solve this problem, taking into account the fact that Crimea is Russian territory,” Musaev said.
He also urged not to believe Ukrainian propaganda claiming that tens of thousands of citizens left Crimea after the reunification of the peninsula with Russia.
“I have one question - where did your colleagues get it, Mr. from the Czech Republic, from Germany - do you have lists of thousands of these Crimean Tatars who moved to live somewhere? I am a Crimean Tatar, I have been living in Crimea since 95. I know that, perhaps, the territory of Crimea has left the territory of Crimea over the past six years, well, maybe 500 people, and that’s all. I’m just wondering where they got these thousands of people and these numbers. Do you even have lists of these people? After all, such figures must be confirmed by statistics,” Musaev said.
The head of the Ukrainian community of Crimea, Anastasia Gridchina, also drew attention to the problem of the blockade.
“Why, if Ukraine wants to return Crimea back, is it doing everything possible to turn the Crimeans against itself, turning off the water, turning off the electricity, inventing some fables about what is happening in Crimea?.. Because Ukraine does not need Crimeans, does not need people Ukraine needs Crimea itself as land. I have repeatedly said in interviews that the North Crimean Canal and the water that flows there from the Dnieper are not the water of the only country in Ukraine. Then why does Ukraine do this with Crimea and the North Crimean Canal?” – Gridchina said.
It should be noted that the speech of the Crimeans during the videoconference was reminiscent of the standard practice of UN meetings, when representatives of the Russian side tried to convey the truth about the state of affairs in Crimea, but the “Western partners” continued to believe Ukrainian propaganda and repeat hackneyed theses about “Russian aggression”, “occupation” Crimea" and "violation of human rights".
At the same time, the very fact of the participation of Crimeans and the broadcast of an alternative opinion significantly frayed the nerves of the Ukrainian Mejlis members. Thus, in his blog, the leader of the extremist group, Refat Chubarov, reproached the Crimeans who spoke for the fact that the theses were allegedly written to them by the FSB, rejected accusations against himself and Rada deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev that they had committed a number of crimes on the territory of Crimea and called the meeting UN Security Council "provocation":
“A provocation by Moscow aimed at discrediting the role and importance of the UN Security Council as a body for maintaining international peace and security.”
At the same time, Chubarov boasted that Ukraine managed to block the speech of representatives of the Crimean authorities, which was also planned as part of a video conference:
The “highlight” of the Russian provocation should in fact have been the speeches of representatives of the occupation authorities of Crimea, against whom international sanctions are in force. But Ukraine and its partners managed to prevent this,” the Mejlis member boasts.
