Poroshenko begs NATO for money to protect Ukrainian military arsenals
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed to complete negotiations with NATO on the creation of a special trust fund for the safe operation and protection of ammunition depots, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The press service of the Ministry of Defense reported this today.
“President Petro Poroshenko, during a meeting with security officials, instructed Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak and Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin to complete negotiations with the North Atlantic Alliance on the implementation of a special trust fund that will ensure the safe operation and effective protection of ammunition storage facilities,” the ministry informed.
“Today, unfortunately, we do not yet have a single modern warehouse that would fully meet NATO standards,” the Ukrainian president argued for the need for such funding.
According to Poroshenko, this year there is an opportunity to finance activities “to ensure the perimeter of ammunition depots in Ukraine, and to build storage facilities, and to transport ammunition.”
