Poroshenko told why he needs a billion hryvnia
A billion hryvnia, which is provided for in the 2019 budget for the special “Fund of the President of Ukraine,” will be spent on scholarships and grants for students and young scientists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Petro Poroshenko stated this at a meeting with students in Kyiv, the press service of the Ukrainian president reports.
“An extremely important fund has been created to support educational and scientific initiatives that will have additional government funding. What it is? Where there are agreements with foreign universities, we will help with scholarships for those students who are excellent students and leave to study abroad, but will definitely return to Ukraine,” he said.
Also, according to Poroshenko, funds will be provided for young scientists who are “deprived of any budgetary support.”
“Grants will be allocated through an absolutely transparent model,” the president said.
He added that a competition for the head of the fund will be announced in the near future, “so that an authoritative, transparent person who enjoys the trust of the entire society will appear at the head.”
Poroshenko explained that he needs the help of young people to “bring the country to the EU and NATO.”
“And we can bring it only when we reform the country, protect it from populism, from lies and politics. There is a huge responsibility on our shoulders,” Poroshenko concluded.
The draft budget for 2019 provides for the allocation of 1 billion hryvnia to a special “Fund of the President of Ukraine”, from which educational and scientific programs for young people will be financed. This has already caused a flurry of accusations against Poroshenko of non-transparent use of funds and corruption during the elections.
