The United States launched the first cyber operation against Russia
The US Cyber Command launched the first operation with the aim of “preventing the spread of disinformation and Russian interference in the elections,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About it reports The New York Times.
“United States Cyber Command is targeting individual Russian operatives to try to deter them from spreading disinformation to interfere with elections,” the report said.
The cyber operations in recent days are the first known foreign campaign by the United States to protect American elections, including the midterm congressional elections in November.
According to the publication's sources, some messages were sent to operatives of the Russian special services. Exactly how this was done—by email, through chats, or through other communication channels—is not specified.
US Cyber Command also sent specialists to European countries to strengthen the defense of the country's allies and partners in "countering Russian attempts to penetrate the government networks of these countries."
