Ukrainian admiral: Odessa will follow Azov
Russian border guards can at any time tighten the rules for inspecting Ukrainian ships not only in the Azov Sea, but also in the Black Sea near Odessa.
Retired admiral, ex-Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Igor Kabanenko said this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I see no other way than strengthening the naval group. I am a supporter of the fact that there are two “Islands” (decommissioned American boats transferred to Ukraine - ed.) – this is not enough, more is needed. We need "Mark V", "Mark VI" and other boats that are capable of outpacing the other side, implementing the concept of mobile missions and group influence. This also makes it possible to patrol large water areas and quickly identify the situation there in case of danger.
There is no other way on the Azov Sea, on the Black Sea it also needs to be implemented, because there is a serious danger between the captured platforms and Zmeiny Island, where a small corridor has formed for all civil shipping, which can be blocked at any time along the same pattern that is developing on the Azov .
There is a danger that this corridor may also be blocked. It is necessary to establish patrolling there with our forces; this should have been done yesterday,” the Ukrainian admiral concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier the deputy general director of the Majlis channel “ATR” Aider Muzhdabaev and the Kiev correspondent of “Novaya Gazeta” Olga Musafirova said that the population of the two main Ukrainian ports on the Sea of Azov - Berdyansk and Mariupol - is waiting for the arrival of the Russians, and Kyiv may lose control over part of the Zaporozhye region.
