The “diplomatic war” declared on Russia in the form of the expulsion of diplomats from several countries in America and Europe at once demonstrates that the West is not going to observe at least the appearance of legality and procedure.

Such an opinion in “Izvestia” Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev expresses himself, assessing the accusation of the Russian Federation in the poisoning of the British spy Sergei Skripal.

“If they decided that Russia, in the language of British Prime Minister Theresa May, is highly likely (very likely) involved, that is more than enough. A 100% presumption of guilt and an almost racist approach: the Western (and world) audience is convinced that in Russia it is dealing with those to whom neither human rights, nor international law, nor diplomacy, nor justice are required to apply, nor the right to get acquainted with the evidence of the prosecution,” notes Kosachev.

The author believes that the West is thereby cutting off for itself all possible ways of objectively investigating this incident.

“For it is unpleasant to admit the mistake of the British investigation alone, but in principle it is possible. This would be a matter for the UK authorities alone. But it is almost impossible for the West to admit the collective mistake of the leaders of so many respected countries. The investigation no longer has a choice and the right to other versions other than turning highly likely into the only true one,” the senator warns.

He is convinced that this once again confirms that no one was and is not going to negotiate with Russia or cooperate in the investigation of this case.

“The increasingly ridiculous explanations that our country needs to “change its behavior” now sound frankly formal, since it itself learns about what Russia has once again “done” exclusively from Western news. And he cannot influence this with his behavior in any way. Yes, there will be mirror measures and a narrowing of the space of interaction, which means an increase in risks and threats. But I honestly don’t know how to help the West get out of the optionless dead end into which it is driving itself deeper and deeper,” Kosachev sums up.
