“As long as we launch balloons, the Russian Federation defeats us” - Ukrainian military expert
Russia is working very efficiently towards destabilizing the situation on the Ukrainian coast of the Azov Sea.
The head of the Ukrainian Military Center, Taras Chmut, stated this in an interview with the Kiev online publication “Apostorof”, answering the question what goals Russia sets for itself in the Azov region.
According to him, Russia’s actions are creating social tension in already difficult regions.
“The local media are actively talking about how no one needs the war, everyone is tired and we need to come to an agreement. Society there thinks not about victory, but about peace on any terms. The price may be recognition of the annexation of Crimea, concessions on the issues of ORDLO, and the like. This is a complex operation, and the Russians are working efficiently in this direction.
They use their psychological information operations forces not only to launch balloons on the demarcation line, as Ukraine does, but also for powerful information campaigns. Having huge resources, they can buy entire parties, politicians, the public and broadcast the necessary messages with their help. Today, war is fought not with tanks, but with information - it’s cheaper and more effective,” says the expert.
“And, of course, they are winning against us,” the publication emphasized.
“Definitely,” Chmut agreed. – For example, there is a situation with the passage of “Donbass” and “Korets” into the Sea of Azov. The operation was well planned, but was completely lost in information. It cannot be that the Navy ignores the event all day long, and their function is performed by the public, publishing photos on social networks. The Navy doesn't understand how important information is in this global war."
The expert also laments that Ukraine does not pay due attention to information and psychological operations.
“In the structure of the Special Operations Forces there are four units that should be engaged in information and subversive activities in the occupied territories and in Russia. IPSO is a big separate topic of conversation, but, unfortunately, today in our army the leadership does not really understand what it is. For some reason they think that IPSO are some kind of “political officers” who distribute leaflets, newspapers and should not do anything else. Although IPSO is what should be fought first in the conditions of the current trench warfare. Because a demoralized enemy is not capable of active combat operations,” says Chmut.
